Ambient’s WNC Regional Livestock Center Selected for the 2011 Innovation Award by the National Association of Development Organizations
Ambient is proud to announce its award-winning WNC Regional Livestock Center is successfully enhancing quality of life for our neighbors throughout Western North Carolina. In its first 5 months, the center delivered gross sales of $4.7 million, creating 5 full-time and 15 part-time positions in Haywood County. Ambient redeveloped the site of a closed landfill for the facility constructed with diverse funding from non-profit organizations, government agencies, livestock producers, and local businesses. Research on the natural movements of cattle by noted animal behaviorist Dr. Temple Grandin inspired the facility’s design.
Projected annual revenue for the WNC Livestock Center is $8.6 million, with $650,000 directly benefitting family farmers by reducing transportation costs and facility fees while increasing the sales price for each head of livestock. The economic benefits to our community extend far beyond the support of family farmers, and ultimately include the preservation of open space, scenic views, and farmland. NADO’s award will be presented later this month in Miami, Florida. |
